Nancy Anderson

I started exhibiting my work in local art shows in 1997 and joined Albany’s Gallery Calapooia in 2014. When I joined the gallery, my art was centered on calligraphy and words.

I collect inspiring quotes, meaningful phrases and fun words that speak to my heart. These were my primary focus, but I am increasingly working in layers with cut paper and collage. Sometimes I add a layer of lettering but other times I do not.

I paint backgrounds in both watercolors and acrylics. I also paint sheets of paper for cutting and building layers to create images.

I generally don’t have a plan when I work. I just launch into the creative process and play with art materials. Sometimes the images are created and the words are then added into the piece. Other times I start by lettering a poem or phrase which then suggest what images I want to create.
