“I have been making art textiles for many years. These days I am also doing a lot of printmaking. This exhibit is influenced by the interesting colors and textures I can get with gel printing. I am applying these concepts to the scarves as I paint them with dye. Lots of fun!!”
“For most of my 60-year art career, I have been a textile artist. Specifically, I was a weaver and then a felt maker. However, since I was in college in the late 60s, I have also worked dyeing and selling fabric and silk scarves in various dyeing techniques.
“I have also had an ongoing interest in printmaking. These days, I am having a difficult time making felt. The years of hard work have caught up with my hands, and I can no longer beat the wool into submission. So I have been searching for another way to express my creativity. Printmaking has come back into my life, and I am loving the patterns and textures that happen on the gel plate prints I make.
“While I continue to make the silk scarves, the use of these shapes and textures is seeping onto the scarves. I am not printing on the scarves, but combining color and pattern concepts from printmaking with the dyes and painting techniques I use on them.”
